Current Activities

Ordinary Meetings

Representatives from all the member firms meet semi-annually to discuss matters concerning the ELG network. The most recent meeting was held in Brussels on October 26-27, 2007. The next ordinary meeting will be held in London, on 2-3 May, 2008.

Sub-group Meetings

Within the ELG there are also a number of specialist sub-groups, some convening regularly, others on a more ad hoc basis. Active sub-groups include Intellectual Property/E-Commerce, Mergers and Acquisitions, Taxation, Employment, and Distribution. In June 2007 there was a two day M&A Workshop in London.

Most recently, the IP and e-commerce sub-group met in Torino on February 29, 2008. The members discussed the current legal position in each of their countries concerning three dimensional trade marks according to Regulation (EC) no. 40/94 and EU case law and illegal file sharing. Each member also reported on the effect of the implementation of the EC Third Money Laundering Directive in each of their countries and the measures adopted by their firm in response. These discussions were both interesting and informative for each member. The next meeting is due to be held during September 2008

Seminars and other special activities

Every once in a while the ELG also arrange seminars covering one or more current issues in the member states. The most recent seminar, on Agency and Distribution Contracts, was held in Trento in November 2004.
